1. Summary
PDF Editor AI is an iPhone and iPad app for reading, editing, signing, scanning, and chatting with PDF files. We designed it so that:
- Your PDFs and their contents stay on your device by default.
- AI features (summarize, chat, translate, extract, form auto-fill) run locally on your device using Apple's Foundation Models framework. We do not see your prompts, your documents, or the model's answers.
- Optional sync (iCloud, Dropbox) only moves files where you tell us to.
- We do not sell, rent, or share personal data. We do not run ads.
2. Scope
This policy applies to PDF Editor AI (the "App") published on the Apple App Store, and to any related support communications you have with us by email. It does not cover third-party services you choose to connect (such as Dropbox or iCloud) — those services have their own privacy policies, and we link to them where relevant.
3. Your documents
When you open, import, scan, or create a PDF, it is stored on your device in the App's private document library. We never receive a copy of your file content.
- Local-first. Documents, folders, tags, bookmarks, signatures, and annotations live in the App's local database (SwiftData).
- OCR. When you scan a paper document, recognized text is generated on your device using Apple's Vision framework and saved alongside the PDF so it becomes searchable.
- Exports. Sharing or exporting a PDF (via the iOS share sheet, AirDrop, email, or another app) is something you initiate, and the destination is your choice.
4. On-device AI
AI features — including document summarization, multi-turn document chat, translation, structured extraction, and form auto-fill — run on your device using Apple's Foundation Models framework. This means:
- The text of your document is read from local storage and passed to the on-device model.
- Your prompts and the model's responses stay on the device.
- We do not transmit prompts, document text, or responses to our servers (we do not operate any AI servers).
Note that on-device AI features require an Apple Intelligence–capable device running a supported version of iOS or iPadOS. On unsupported devices, the rest of the App continues to work normally.
5. Sync & cloud storage
iCloud
If you are signed in to iCloud on your device and have iCloud Drive enabled for the App, your document library and metadata can sync between your Apple devices using Apple's CloudKit service. We do not operate that infrastructure — it is end-to-end between your devices and Apple. Apple's privacy practices apply.
Dropbox
If you connect Dropbox, the App can upload backups of selected documents to your Dropbox account. Authentication uses Dropbox's OAuth flow inside Dropbox's website — we do not see your Dropbox password. Files uploaded by you are stored in your Dropbox account under your control. You can disconnect Dropbox at any time from the App's Settings, which removes the stored access token from your device.
Dropbox's privacy policy is available at dropbox.com/privacy.
Other providers
Additional providers (Google Drive, OneDrive) are listed in-app as "coming soon." If you enable them in the future, the same principle applies: data only moves where you choose.
6. Subscriptions & purchases
PDF Editor AI offers an optional Pro subscription. Purchases and entitlements are handled by Apple's App Store and by RevenueCat, our subscription management provider. RevenueCat receives a pseudonymous identifier and your subscription state (e.g., active, expired, in trial) so the App can know whether to unlock Pro features.
RevenueCat does not receive your name, email address, or document content. Their privacy policy is at revenuecat.com/privacy.
Billing, refunds, and renewal are managed by Apple. We do not see your payment card or Apple ID.
7. Diagnostics & analytics
The App does not collect analytics on your document content, prompts, or AI outputs. It does not include third-party advertising SDKs or behavioral tracking.
If you opt in to Apple's standard "Share With App Developers" setting on your device, Apple may share aggregated, anonymized crash reports and performance metrics with us. These reports do not contain document content. This is controlled entirely by you in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.
8. Device permissions
The App may ask for the following permissions, only when needed:
- Camera — to scan paper documents into PDFs.
- Photo Library — to import images as PDF pages or as signature stamps.
- Files — to import or export PDFs to and from the Files app.
- Microphone — only if used by a future feature; not used today.
You can change any of these permissions at any time in iOS Settings → PDF Editor AI.
9. Retention & deletion
Because document data lives on your device, deleting it works the way you'd expect:
- Delete a document inside the App → it is removed from your local library and Trash.
- Uninstall the App → iOS removes the local library, including all documents, annotations, signatures, and OCR data.
- Signed in to iCloud → also remove the App's iCloud data via iOS Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Storage.
- Connected to Dropbox → revoke access in your Dropbox account settings, and delete any uploaded files there.
10. Children
The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us and we will work with you to remove it.
11. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, port, or object to processing of personal information. Because almost all of your data stays on your device, you can exercise most of these rights directly inside the App. For anything else, write to us at the address below and we will respond within a reasonable time.
12. Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes will be highlighted inside the App or on this page.
